Trip Tips

Čremošná Valley
The quiet valley of the Čremošná stream has a unique atmosphere. For centuries, water has shaped the landscape here – and thanks to it, several mills and ironworks once operated in the valley. The valley is perfect for exploring nature and enjoying a relaxing trip near the mill.

Our tip: The valley is ideal to explore by bicycle – an easy route through beautiful countryside. The area is considered one of the cleanest in Slovakia, with no factories or industrial pollution.

Drnava
Drnava is a village with a rich mining and metallurgical history, mainly known thanks to the former Andrássy Ironworks - only the building next to the football field has been preserved to this day. Also worth seeing in the village is a summer oak tree with a stated age of around 300 years, which was awarded the title of Tree of the Year in 2020, and the Dionysus adit is nearby.

Our tip: Take a short walk to the Dionýz adit and the old oak tree in Drnava.

Drieňovec (Kováčová)
From the picturesque village of Kováčová you can see the impressive rocky cliff of Drieňovec. The Drienovec hill (804 m above sea level) on the Horný vrch plateau is an excellent destination for nature and history lovers. In prehistoric times, a hillfort stood here, and later a small medieval fortress known as Devil’s Castle (Čertov hrad). The site had strategic importance, guarding the old trade routes leading through the Čremošná valley and across the Slovak Karst. The fortress disappeared in the 14th century, when its defensive role was gradually taken over by Krásna Hôrka Castle. Nearby you can also find the Veterná Abyss, about 120 meters deep. According to local tradition, King Béla IV found refuge here after the Battle of the Slaná River in 1241.

Our tip: A great trip on foot or by bicycle – either around Drieňovec or up to the plateau with views of Krásna Hôrka Castle.

Hussite Church (Lúčka)
This site is the ruin of an early Gothic fortified church from the 13th century, located above the village of Lúčka. It received its name from the Hussite troops, who occupied it in the 15th century and turned it into a small fortress. The church ruins are freely accessible and, thanks to their hilltop location, offer a romantic atmosphere and beautiful views of the Čremošná valley.

Our tip: From the water mill, the Hussite church is about a one-hour walk.

Bôrka
The plateaus of the Slovak Karst have a special charm – open landscapes, silence, and wide views. From the hill above Bôrka toward Zádiel you can take a trip to Snežná Diera, Borčianska Plateau, and Havrania Rock, where you will enjoy spectacular panoramic views.

Our tip: Perfect for hiking or cycling.

Zádiel Gorge
One of the most beautiful valleys in the Slovak Karst, famous for its dramatic cliffs, narrow gorges, and scenic hiking trails.

Our tip: For an unusual experience, try the viewpoints from above the gorge – the trail begins near the chapel above Bôrka.
